The European Alps offers some of the most spectacular and enjoyable hiking in the world and this adventure gives us the chance to combine three countries into one trip as we cross the rugged Alps from Switzerland to France and Italy. The trek around Mont Blanc is one of Europe’s best mountain walks and you’ll get a chance to appreciate the variety of cultures, foods and people whilst you hike through glorious Alpine scenery.

  • The Tour Du Monte Blanc is punctuated with alpine meadows, forests and rocky trails, taking in high alpine pastures and mountain passes including the Grand Col Ferret (The highest point of the TMB) and the Col de la Seigne on the boarder between France and Italy.
  • Diverse wildlife: Ibex, Marmots, chamois and a variety of birds inhabit the region and offer plenty of opportunity to see unique and fascinating wildlife in their natural habitats and environments.

Itinerary

(Nb. All ascents and descents are for hiking trails, so exclude height gain/loss of chairlifts & gondolas)

Day 1 - Arrival to Chamonix - trip briefing, introduction to app, maps, guidebook & aperitif 

Accommodation:  2/3 * centrally located hotel

Day 2 - Depart 8:30am Chamonix for warm up hike on the Grand Balcon with incredible views back over to Mont Blanc and the massif. After the balcon there is the option of continuing all the way to the top of the Brevent, or simply jump on a gondola back down to the valley floor. An opportunity to explore the town and pick up any last minute supplies.

Day 3 - Les Houches to Les Contamines (France) 

Starting the day with a little assistance from a gondola we ascend up to Bellevue, before descending, crossing a suspended bridge with amazing views of the Bionassay glacier and climbing up to the Col du Tricot (6955ft). After the col you drop down to the small hamlet of Miage and incredible views of the Miage glacier before ascending up to Le Truc, then descending through forest to the ski town of Les Contamines.

Day 4 - Les Contamines - Les Chapieux (France) 

Starting from Notre Dame we pass a splendid Baroque church following an old Roman road to our first climb; the Col du Bonhomme (7641ft). We traverse across to the Col du Croix du Bonhomme (8100ft) entering the remote and wild section of the Tarantaise before descending to the beautiful hamlet of Les Chapieux. Sometimes we stay on Lac de Roselend famous for the Tour du France.

Day 5 - Les Chapieux (France) - Courmayeur (Italy) 

Today we cross the border from France in Italy, Bonjour turns in ‘Bongiorno!' Hiking from the Valley of Glaciers we climb up to the Co du la Seigne (8245ft), the border between France and Italy before descending gently into the majestic Val Veny valley. Local buses used to connect the start and end of the hike.

Day 6 - Courmayeur (Italy) - Ferret (Switzerland) 

Crossing the border from Italy over into Switzerland via the majestic Col du Ferret at 8300ft before descending gradually to Le Peule Farm and the small Swiss village of Ferret. A short bus ride then takes you to the beautiful lake side ville of Champex - lac.

10.5 miles 2520ft+ 2746ft-

Day 7 - Champex - Lac (Switzerland) to Col du Forclaz (Switzerland) 

Our trail follows a classic shepherds trail used for centuries passing through the hamlets of Champex-d’en Haut and Champex-d’en Bas before climbing up through the forest to emerge onto a high alpage with sweeping views over the Rhone valley.

Day 8 Trient (Switzerland) - Chamonix (France) 

Hiking over the Col du Balme (7188ft), enjoying a delicious lunch at a mountain refuge that sits on the border of Switzerland and France. back into France we descend into the beautiful Chamonix valley to complete our Tour du Mont Blanc circuit!

9miles - 3050ft+ 3000ft- option to short the descent utilising gondolas.

Day 9 Depart after breakfast
