Nepal Charity Trek

Our trekkers; Jan, Lyn and Paula from the UK, donated 250US$ each towards starting up a library in the village school of Singla in the Manaslu region of Nepal. From this donation shelves were built and books bought in Kathmandu and transported to the village. It took 5 days to trek to the village of Singla, 3 of which were strenuous uphill climbs. The trekker's efforts were much appreciated by the locals who held a special opening ceremony for them.

Mer de Glace - Winter skills training

Our client is planning an ascent of Aconcagua 6962m, in January 2010 and came to Tailor Made Trekking for some winter skills training in Chamonix, with a UIAGM guide.

"It was a good 2 days, the training was conducted on the Mer de Glace on tuesday and wednesday. The mountains were under fresh snow but the weather was good. We talked a lot about the Aconcagua expedition. The client was strong and enthusiastic."
He had an introduction to a broad range of skills:

Moel Eilio, North Wales

Gil and I started our walking after a hearty fry up breakfast at Pete's Eats in Llanberis. Admittedly 12.30pm was a later start than we had intended but the weather was fantastic for an October Autumn day and we had gone out well prepared knowing we would be returning early evening. The skies were clear bright blue all day long with superb views of Snowdon, the Moelwyns and the Glyders too. Starting with a gentle climb up Braich y Foel we arrived at the top of Moel Eilio 726m at around ...

Old Man of Coniston & Troutbeck to Kentmere, the Lake District

This was Chris's first experience of walking in the mountains for which he had plenty of determination to reach the top of the Old Man of Coniston on Saturday. Initially we met up early in Bowness on Windermere with a thick covering of hill fog. However we were not detered and took the car ferry across the lake, drove to the start of the walk at Walna Scar and headed up the mountain. The fog cleared quickly and we were lucky to have good views of the surrounding mountains. As we had started earl ...

Gran Paradiso, Italy

The Gran Paradiso summit attempt was certainly one of our most exciting Tailor Made Treks to date. Six days previous to our attempt the Gran Paradiso region had about about 25cm of snow at 2700m! Gran Paradiso is 4061m! The weather was quite extraordinary for this time of year as September normally brings more stable weather with less afternoon thunderstorms. However, all experienced mountaineers know that snow can be encountered in the mountains at anytime of year.

Fortunately on the d ...
