Pen Y Fan, Brecon Beacons
Pen Y Fan, Brecon Beacons
I woke this morning to a fresh fall of snow, the Brecon Beacons were looking beautiful and it was the perfect day for walking in South Wales. I started off by driving to the National Trust car park near to Cwmgwdi. The road was very steep and icy here and everybody's cars were struggling to get up to the top of the car park. Fortunately there were some very willing army guys here who helped push the cars up the hill!

I started my quiet ascent up Cefn Cwm Llwch. It was not long before I was overtaken by the army who were in training for the Three Peaks Challenge, fully laiden with 40 litre packs. After an hour and three quaters of beginning, I arrived at the summit of Pen Y Fan 886m. Although its was very cold the views were amazing.

I had a quick photo stop and continued down hill to the saddle and then uphill to Cribyn Craig. There were quite a lot of other walkers enjoying the mountains today, including Nottingham University rambling group who were slipping and sliding across the ice!

I carried on along the ridge and ate my lunch at Fan Y Big 719m.  I could also hear very loud yelping and barking of a pack of hunting dogs from here. I decided to descend from here down Cefh Cyff. Some 15 minutes later the pack of hunting dogs came over the spur and continued down towards Cwm Oergwm. Fifteen minutes later about 20 horsemen followed by a quad bike came up Cefn Cyff.
