We spent the bank holiday weekend camping and walking in the Peak District, based in Tideswell. Despite the poor weather forcast for Saturday we were not put off and started our walk from Castleton on the Limestone Way. We walked across Rushup Edge and Lord's Seat and on to Brown Knoll. After following the spur down we meet the Penine Way and continued up to the Kinder Plateau. Unfortunately this is where the bad weather came in and we were drenched! It was a beautiful hot sunny day as we drove from Bury St Edmunds to the start of our walk in Westerfield near Ipswich. The temperature only got hotter as the day went on. We started off by walking through Westerfield village and taking a public pathway across barley fields to Tuddenham St Martin. Tuddenham St Martin was a very picturesque village with a pub overlooking meadows. This walk was lead by Tim and was an East Anglia Mountaineering Club meet. The walk started at Sudbury railway station. We walked along the Stour Valley pathway towards Long Melford, through small villages and following the riverside. |

On this expedition 7 boys from Edinburgh were preparing for their bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award. To start with we covered different sections of the syllabus such as: putting up tents, using stoves, first aid, navigation, menu planning, buying food, route planning, packing rucksacs, checking equipment etc. |

This was a 24 hour sponsored walking event for charity, from Wattlington to Barbury Castle. The route followed the 'The Ridgeway' national trail for 50 miles. The event started at 8am and the first group of walkers arrived at the finish line at 7pm! |
